Day 01: Arrival - Delhi
Meeting to Assist At Airport & Transfer to Hotel. O/n Hotel.
Day 02: Delhi - Chandigarh - Manali - ( 1985M )
Morning train to Chandigarh Dep 0730 hrs Arr 1040 hrs. On arrival commence drive to Manali 7-8 hrs. On arrival check into Hotel. Dinner & overnight at Hotel. .
Day 03: Manali
After breakfast half day city tour, afternoon at leisure to explore this beautiful mountain resort on your own. Meals & overnight at Hotel..
Day 04: Manali - Tandi
After breakfast commence drive 6 hrs to Tandi, a small village situated in the heart of Lahaul valley. The drive takes us over the mighty Rohtang pass (3998m). Lahaul valley is quite rocky & barren & totally opposite to the lush green Kullu valley. The people of this valley are mainly buddhists & the local society still follows the ancient culture of Polygamy!!!! On arrival set up camp, afternoon walk to the nearby monastery & visit villages. Day 05: Tandi- Keylong - Jispa(3100M)
After breakfast commence drive to Keylong the capital village of this valley, Keylong is a bustling village & a very interesting market. On the other side of the hill stands the most celebrated monastery of Lahaul called Khardung. After visit of Keylong a short trek to the monastery (good for the purpose of acclamatization) after visit return to Keylong & continue drive to Jispa, enroute visit yet another monastery called Gemur. Afternoon at leisure at Jispa to walk around the village & visit the Dalai lama’s monastery. Meals & overnight at camp.
Day 06: JISPA-DARCHA to CHHALANG TOPKO (3580m) TREK 5 HRS.
This trek starts from the Himachal region and ends in the Ladakh region. Darcha is a village in the Lahaul valley of Himachal region and is the gateway to the Zanskar valley in the Ladakh region. Trek to Chhalang Topko passing through two Himachal villages.
Day 07: CHHALANG TOPKO to ZANSKAR SUMDO / RAMJAK (3750m) : TREK 4-5 HRS
The trail gradually ascends till reaching the awesomely beautiful Zanskar Sumdo, which is the meeting point of two water sources. The river here was once dangerous to cross but is now made safe by a modern suspension bridge. The pack cannot cross on it and therefore must be unloaded so that they can swim through the river. This bridge is situated on the boundaries of Zanskar and Lahaul valleys and from here you entire the Zanskar valley. From here ascend a little further to reach Ramjak where you camp overnight .
Day 08: RAMJAK to CHHUMIKNAKPO (4060m) TREK 5-6 HRS
Trek towards the stream flowing from Shingo La Pass. The initial stretch towards Shingo La Pass has to be trekked very slowly, as the trail is steep and high altitude. A number of streams have to be crossed on the trail, which are extremely cold and have to be crossed very cautiously and slowly. The first campsite is a pasture called Chhumiknakpo.
Day 09: CHHUMIKNAKPO to LAKONG (4400m) over SHINGO LA (5100m) TREK 6 HRS.
The trail steeply ascends along a stream and then after further ascending across a snow-filled path, reaches Shingo La Pass. From the top of the Pass, there are spectacular views of the peaks of Ladakh. From this pass, the trail initially descends steeply down till the meadows of Lakong, which is a good camping site at the foot of the Shingo La.
Day 10: LAKONG to KARGYAK (4060m) 5-6 HRS
The trail descends along the wide Kargyak River, which is difficult to cross if there has been a lot of snow melting during the day, increasing the depth of the water. After crossing the river, continue down the valley past the beautiful sheer-sided mountain called Gumburanjon (5900m). Kargyak is the first and highest village in this valley. There are good campsites at this village.
Day 11: KARGYAK TO KURU / TETA (3950m) TREK 5 HRS
The trail gradually descends and runs along little settlements. The houses in this region are very simple compared to the elaborate architecture found in other parts of Zanskar valley. The houses are built below ground level to keep them insulated during the long cold winter months. Trek along these little villages, till you Kuru or Teta. Both these villages have good camping sites.
Day 12: TETA to PURNE (3700m) TREK 4 HRS
From here follow the Kargyak River down the valley till Purne village. This village has a good campsite and one can even take a side trip to Phuktal where the spectacular Gelukpa monastery is situated around a sacred spring that originates from a deep cave. It is a fantastic sight with the monastery buildings built on the face of a rock, while the temple is situated in the cave. Trek back to Purne after visiting the monastery and camp overnight.
Day 13: Purne/ Phuktal Monastery / Purne
After a leisurely breakfast commence excursion to the most famous & dramatic monastery of Phuktal. Return to camp for a late lunch. Afternoon to walk around the purne village & see the life of Zanskari people from close quarters. Meals & overnight camp.
Day 14: PURNE to MUNE (3650m) TREK 6 - 7 HRS
The trek gradually descends through this Buddhist region and you will come across a couple of Chortens on the way. So according to custom, always go from the left side of the Chortens, which are stone walls with religious inscriptions. Continue along the river until you reach the village and monastery of Mune. The friendly monks show you around the monastery.
Day 15: MUNE to PADAM (3560m) 6 HRS.
The trek runs along the river until reaching the Bardan Gompas, which is one of the oldest Gompas of the region. The friendly monks will show you around the Gompas, which also houses a gigantic prayer wheel, which stands over three meters high. After visiting the monastery, trek down till Padum, which is only a little away. Camp overnight.
Day 16: PADUM to KARSHA (3700m)
From Padum a well-marked trail passes through Pipiting where it is possible to visit a Buddhist monastery. The trail then crosses the Doda River and runs on to Karsha. There is a small lodge at the entrance of the village and one can visit the XVth century Gelumpa monastery with its numerous interesting frescoes .
Day 17: KARSHA to PISHU (3500m)
A long but easy walk through terrain leads to Pishu. This place is known to trekkers because of the presence of one of the longest and most daunting suspension bridges in Zanskar. Before reaching Pishu you also walk over a rocky field and continue towards the confluence of the Tsarap and Doda, which merge to form the Zanskar River. From here, after crossing the pastures of Rinam, you continue through a series of climbs and descents until you reach Pishu. The best camping site is a little further along at Zangla. Camp overnight at Zangla.
Day 18: PISHU to HANUMIL (3300m)
From Pishu, continue along the left bank, across the morainic plateau. You reach Pidmu after crossing a bridge and then walk further for about two hours until you reach Hanumil, which has a very good campsite.
Day 19: HANUMIL to SNERTSE
The trail continues along a steep ascend. The climb is difficult even for the animals as far as the Parfi-La (3900m). From here, the route is a rather steep descent until reaching the Oma-Chu River. After crossing the bridge the trail descends along a sandy slope. The trail further continues along the slope as far as the sheepfolds of Snertse La where you camp overnight.
Day 20: SNERTSE to HANUMA-LA (4877m) and LINGSHED
Long gradual ascent towards the spectacular Hanuma-la Pass and the Lingshed Monastery. The trail climbs up through a charming setting, crossing back and forth over the mountain stream a number of times and then continues through a level stretch. The trail continues further along a little valley until reaching Humana La Pass from where you can view the valley of Lingshed. Now after a steep descend and climbing back up to the summit of Chapskang you then descend towards Lingshed. Camp near the Lingshed monastery overnight.
Day 21: LINGSHED to foot of the SENGGE-LA
An easy climb takes you till the Murgum-la (4100m). Continue climbing, pass an escarpment then go along the slope. Along the way experience a panorama of wonderful landscapes and breathtaking views of the valley of Nierag, on the other bank of the Zanskar. The trail further descends gently towards the villages of Gongma (3840m) and Skiumpata. From here there is steep climb as far as the Kiupa-La (3850m). Then climb gradually along the mountainside up to the foot of the Sengge-La where there is a tent-restaurant run by a monk of Lingshed. Camp here overnight.
Day 22: Foot of the SENGGE-LA to SENGGE-LA to PHOTOKSAR
Rather steep climb to the Sengge La from the base of the pass. Then a short slope leads into a broad valley. The trail gradually ascends towards the picturesque Bumiktse-la (4200 m) from where there is a beautiful view of the valley. The trail further descends towards Photoksar (3750 m) which a splendid village at the base of huge mountain walls. There is an abandoned Gompa 20 minutes away above the village. Camp at Photoksar.
Day 23: PHOTOKSAR to SIRSIR-LA to HANUPATTA
From the village the trail gently ascends up to a large chorten, then ascends steeply till Sirsir-la pass (4800m). From here, the path descends easily to the river. Cross over the bridge to the left bank of the river. From there, a path leads up to the Sniugutse-la (5000m) reaching Shilla and Lamayuru without going through Hanupatta. But for reaching Hanupatta, after crossing the bridge, one has to descend through a stony valley and arrive at the campsite. A very good campsite is a short distance before the village of Hanupatta.
Day 24: HANUPATTA to WANLA
From Hanupatta, the trail continues to descend along the slope until entering the gorges. Since August 1984, a new path cut into the rocks avoids the difficult fords. The trail then continues along a ridge, then goes down until reaching a bridge across the Yapola River. Further ahead, the trail continues along smooth and rough stretches covered with fallen rocks until Phenjil La. A little beyond the village, the trail crosses again into the left bank and through a flat stretch winds up at Wanla .
Day 25: WANLA to LAMAYURU
Go up the Shillakong along the right bank of the river, cross over the bridge, then arrive in Shilla. Pass the village, go to a broad chorten then follow a narrow and dry gorge as far as the Prinkiti-La (3726 m). Easy descent, then pass an escarpment. Cross the river and go towards the village of Lamayuru. Short climb towards the monastery, which is the most, photographed in Ladakh. End Trek & Drive to leh!!!!!!! On arrival check into hotel.
Day 26: LEH - SHEY/THIKSE/HEMIS
Full day excursion to visit the most important monasteries of the Indus valley. Late afternoon return to Leh, rest of the day at leisure for shopping etc.
Day 27: LEH - DELHI
Early morning transfer to Leh airport for flight to Delhi. On arrival transfer to Hotel. Day at leisure!!!
DAY 28 - DELHI
Optional excursion to Agra(Not included in the tour cost) This is a emergency day due to leh/Delhi flight cancellation due to weather problems…..
DAY 29 DEP DELHI
In time transfer to international airport for flight to onward destination.
